Koen Van Malder

As Continent Leader Global Design EMEA, Koen Van Malder is responsible for overseeing architecture, interior design, and project management-related activities for all Marriott brands in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Koen joined Marriott as part of the Starwood acquisition in April 2017, after ten years with Starwood. He has held a number of leadership positions in Starwood and Marriott, most recently, VP Global Design in Europe and VP Global Design EMEA. where he created a group that improved speed to market, redesigned internal processes and helped with new product development. Prior to this, as Vice President Design & Project Management, Central, Western & Southern Europe, Koen led the formation of a new Central, Western & Southern team. He also oversaw significant growth in the region and facilitated the support of the newly acquired brands throughout the integration process.

Prior to joining Marriott Koen worked as Project Architect on various international Hotel projects for several architectural practices in Brussels and London.

Koen holds, among others, a Master in Architecture from Sint-Lucas in Brussels, an Executive MBA from London Business School and a licensed Architect in the UK. He currently resides in London with his wife Ailsa and two sons Finn and Lorcan.
