Founder & Principal, Customs Bureau
Led by Shida Salehi, Customs Bureau is an international design studio dedicated to curating luxury hospitality interiors that are as uniquely expressive as the people and places they cater to.
Over the years, Shida has become a force within high-end hospitality design, now launching Customs Bureau after over a decade at world-renowned interior design firm, Yabu Pushelberg. Based within their New York office, Shida brings with her a New York mindset when it comes to design, seeking to understand and bring forward the latest and most innovative trends in interior design.
During her time at YP, Shida worked closely with global architecture and interiors practice, Woods Bagot, on the design of a new super-boutique 5-star hotel, The Londoner in Leicester Square. Forming a close relationship with the client, The Edwardian Group, Shida was responsible for the hotel’s spaces, textures and experiences through an interior design and artwork curation programme entirely bespoke to the first-ever super-boutique hotel in London.
Shida’s ethos stems from the human, quotidian experience, evoking emotion through the spaces she curates and designs. Her designs take a humanistic approach, considering the user experience in every feature, while also looking at how to uniquely respond to each aspect of the client’s vision. As a result, Shida can take the conceptual design process and individualize it, thus creating well-thought-out, intimate and highly bespoke projects for her clients.
It is this attention to detail and consideration for the client’s distinctive standpoint that enables Shida to work with some of the most exclusive and highly sought-after brands, from the Four Seasons to Aman. Shida will be leading on all Customs Bureau projects across the North American, European and Middle Eastern markets.
